We will be using the Scratch programming language in our camp.Scratch is a visual language that children find very easy to use and understand.
The camp is for 4 days.It is not possible to book for a shorter period as our programme is designed to develop from day 1 to day 4.
Children will require a laptop for the camp, I-pads and tablets are not suitable.(If this is a problem, please contact us, we may be able to arrange something for you).
During the camp, children will learn basic programming principles and develop projects including games and apps. The emphasis will be on understanding in a fun environment.
You don't need to surf with us to come to the coding camp, but we think that the two compliment each other and the physical activity involved with surfing can stimulate and assist with the mental challenges of the coding camp. We may be sending you very happy but tired children at 4.30pm!
Coding isn’t just for computer whizzes, says Mitch Resnick of MIT Media Lab — it’s for everyone. In a fun, demo-filled talk Resnick outlines the benefits of teaching kids to code, so they can do more than just “read” new technologies — but also create them.
In this video from Ted, the developer behind Scratch explains why learning about coding is applicable to many more facets of thinking than just the narrow world of computer programming.
